I am getting really good at talking to people on the phone, people who used to intimidate me. It is amazing how strong I can be when it comes to some one messing with my family.
Starting this new year our health insurance changed to a high deductible/ high out of pocket plan. They tried to get us pumped up about it. Saying things about how we can save money by researching doctors prices then choosing the best price. Or choosing to not go to the doctor for small things. Now before this past summer this would have been great considering we hardly went to the doctor, we would have had a insurance net to fall on if something huge happened but wouldnt really need it other wise.
Note: BEFORE. Also they encouraged
the new plan by saying it is all family deduc. and family out of pocket. I called and confirmed a few times just making sure I understood everything and there would be no surprises. Every one I talked to confirmed family plan.
I call to get Haley first Rx. They told me the bill was about half what it was supposed to be. This Rx is coming from the insurance pharmacy. I told her that it wasnt right and I should have to pay the full price, she said that Haley had an individual deductible. I argued and she said thats what she is showing. I told her I would have to call my insurance and call her back. So thats what I did. Silly me, had I thought about it I would have realized that she could have helped me. I probably hung up and called the person next to her. But she didnt offer any help, so I am glad I called and got someone else. ( To long of a story but I had called before and found out this is what they were charging and the lady I was talking to that time wasnt sure why, because she was seeing we didnt have individual deduc. We decided then that we would wait until I called to get the rx to see if it was just a pre-auth type thing.)
The guy that answered agreed with me. He didnt understand why they werent charging me the full price and saying she had a deduc. Of course he wanted to put me on hold to transfer me to someone else, I asked his name before he did. It was Charlie. On hold for about 5 minutes and he came back and said Hi its andrew again, I dont have to transfer you because after further research I do see you do have individual deductible and out of pocket. I argued and said I havent heard anything about this, it was always explained that it was a family plan. He was no help. I wanted so badly to ask about his name change.
I searched my house for the info paper nick brought home from work, I got on each of my insurance websites, there are 3?? not sure why. And I could find nothing on individual crap. Then I spent a day worrying. This would help us reach 100% coverage for Haley more quickly, but for the rest of us, we would never reach our deductible by the end of the year. I was worried because we would pay 100% of getting our hearts checked and other things we were planning on doing after we hit our max. but even with doing all those it would end up being ridiculously expensive with this plan they were telling me.
Either way Nick and I talked about it and didnt understand it but if this was the way it was, we had no choice and there was nothing we could do about it. I tried one more time though, I was chatting with the company that can be used as the middle man between us and the insurance. I was calling about a few other things that needed to be handled, and decided to ask about this. She agreed with me and said she didnt understand why that would be. She called my insurance and got me on the phone with them. This lady we talked to saw the same thing. An hour and a half later she saw that who ever was imputing information had put in that we had a indie deduc and out of pocket. She couldnt figure out where they got that info from and put in a request for some one to take a look and change it. Two days later she calls back and they got as far as I was right and they need to correct it. That was Monday. I will be calling again today. Haley has been without one of her meds for a couple days, I told them that she was low so they need to hurry.
I am glad I called them on it, I knew I was either right or crazy.
I am not sure if I wrote anything about this but back in august I sent to get all of haleys medical claims from the insurance. They sent me mid 2008- present. i called to ask where the rest was and the lady sent a request. I have learned sometimes that means they do nothing. So I called again and the lady told me they have records from june 2006-dec 2006. then from jan 2008 and so on. I asked why I didnt get 2006 or beginning of 08. She wasnt sure and told me to send another request, requesting those specific dates. As to 2007, she informed me we did not have their insurance then, I called BS but thats what her computer said so what can you do.... This was one of the reasons I called the middle man. When I spoke with them, I asked her if we had insurance in 2007, she said yes, which I was 100% sure of. Nicks been with the same company since before Haley. She called my insurance and found out they show I did have insurance and Haley had 13 claims that year! I am not sure what the crap is going on with insurance but it is ridiculous. The crazy part is, that out of all 5.5 years of claims I need to see, it was 2007 that I needed the most. I have the paper work to request it and hopefully it will be here soon.
Fight insurance, they are wrong alot.
Now we wait for some one to get on their computer and change the info they put it, so we can get Haleys meds and all that jazz. I am surprised it has taken 5 days for this to happen. They are open 24 hours you would think it cant be that hard. I wonder if they know the affects this has on a family when stupid mistakes happen.
